Protected Areas / Coral Reefs

In recent years most the coral reefs and island of the Egyptian Red Sea have been made Protectorates and are now considered National Parks. This in turn brings in some new rules and regulations for users and visitors.

Regulations

Mooring SystemHEPCA

HEPCA has provided and installed mooring buoys in a number of dive sites to prevent boats from anchoring on the reef.

HEPCA, in co-operation with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), managed to install more than 1000 moorings throughout the whole Red Sea, making it the biggest mooring system in the whole world.
